Orctober: On the desk

Doing a 1000 pts Destruction force for an Age of Sigmar tournament this weekend.

My original plan was to do about 82 miniatures but then the new Generals Handbook came.

New plan will be an orc shaman as general, 40 grots and 3 ogors as battleline. To that i will have 3 trolls, 3 Gore gruntas and a unit of ardboyz. Plus a gobbo big boss. That makes it 61 models instead. Thats fine.

Plan is to present the units properly in individual posts but also put some of them up here already.
This is my cavalry, the general plus Gore gruntas.

Next are the Sourbreath Troggoths, not the sharpest knives in the toolshed. I call them the Stinktank. The’ve been rebased, touched up and varnished since I played with them last time.

Here is also some ogres, Mooch’s Bunch, since they are lead by the Ogre Captain Mooch. The model is Hrothyogg, the C23 ogre Captain, sculpted by Jes Goodwin. Probably my favourite ogre model. The other two are from Reaper Miniatures, part of the Bones3 kickstarter I received earlier this year.

Will do proper army pics this weekend.

Moosotaur, Greebo Troll and som gobbos

Players for a Chaos Pact team; Troll, Dark elf and a Moosotaur.

Players for a Chaos Pact team; Troll, Dark elf and a Moosotaur.

The troll is from Greebo, the dark elf (not sure) and the Moosotaur is from Eurobowl 2016. The moose is sculpted by the Kalle (Gimpen) who also has made the beautiful Ogre team available from Impact. He has done a lot of other stuff, super punch troll and some goblins. The dwarves I do hope get some wider spread some day, we´ll see.

The team that they are joining are wearing purple and are generally darker. Thats what I went for. Mostly glazing and washing apart from the metal parts. Quite fun.
Looking forward to painting my own moosotaurs soon. Really happy with how the horns turned out.

Next up are gobbos, completing an Orc team.

The first three from left are John pickfords sculpts, from wargames foundry/Warmonger miniatures. The last one is greenstuffed.
The NAF trophy was won in febuary, not by me but by the team that the goblins are completing the savage orc themed team I painted earlier.

A ghost, a librarian, a mouse, a fairy-gnome and our heroine!

So my fiances niece is showing interest in boardgames, both playing but also developing and the mechanics behind the game.

Some time ago we made board and pieces from scratch.

It was some sort of dungeoncrawling where we, the protagonists, had to complete the trail without encountering the ghost or the giant turd. (Yeah she´s six so those types of biological funtions are quite interesting it seems.)

Thought I could provide some markers, dice, player and monsters in order to inspire her to make new exciting gameboards and games. The narrative is the key I think, that she´ll be able to tell a story through the game.

So here´s the librarian and the ghost, the libarian could be the protagonist in games I suppose but basically my idea was that she´ll be able to provide support for the hero. Like a lifeline or source of information like the Giles character in Buffy. The miniature is from Stonehaven, some sort of elf I think. The ghost is made out of greenstuff, the base is some GW empire militia I believe. The ghost is rather a person dressed up as a ghost. The niece is only 6 so “battle” will rather be the bad guys trying to scare the players and make them not complete their journey.

And here are the rest of the players/markers:

From left to right: A mouse from Mice and Mystics set by Plaid Hat Games, hidden behind is a coackroach also from M&M, next is the heroine a gnome from the Stonehaven kickstarter together with a GW Lizard from their swarm blister, then we have a pixie gnome (yeah that´s right) also from Stonehaven. In the back is a big spider from Mice and Mystics and finally in front the objective marker a treasure chest from Stonehaven.

Hopefully this will result in a lot of scenarios and adventures for the niece.

Seasonal Scallywags pt I

Yeah, so as I´ve mentioned before, the name of my gang in our renewed endeavours into the wonderful world of Necromunda was Seasonal Scallywags.

It didnt take me long to realise that they needed a bit of touch-up, paintwise. Or rather a lot of touch. A re-do if you like. So i sent them aceton swimming.

To the left they are drying up after a refreshing bath. Note that this treatment is not at all recommended for plastic minis, they evaporate in aceton. I´m not sure what to use if you´re trying to paintstrip them, just don´t use aceton , ok?

In the middle is the backbone of what is to be th new model for my leader, an ork skorcha gunner body with a headswap from a space wolf sergeant. Plan is to try out magnetise arms for more choices when it comes to weapons. Right now he´s wielding a chainsword and a bolt pistol but I´m thinking of getting a flamer for him. We´ll see what happens.

I´ve also realised that in order for my scallywags to be an unruly bunch I probably need to make the team more diverse. One idea is to have the Orlock ganger models waiting to step up whenever the juves have gained sufficient experience. That way I can use other minitures for the gangers I already have. I´ve already laid my eyes on some prospects in the “street violence” range of the amazing wargames foundry.

Having a bunch of reading up to do, next post might be of some painting. Or artwork. Or reading material. Or something else.

Resources – tutorials

Well, I´m thinking of gathering tips and tricks somewhere, so I later could use them for reference.

I´ll probably make page called “Resources” or something like that at some stage.
For now, the posts will have that tag so they´re easier to backtrack.
I don´t know if I´ll do many tutorials myself since there are already lots of nice ones out there, this is more of an effort to stack them somewhere.

Here´s a video on how to sculpt faces by Tom Mason, really good. You should subscribe to his channels, he puts out a nice tutorial every now and then.

Fishyman and Friends

Bloodbowl was the game that brought me back to the miniature painting and sometimes even playing hobby after a couple of years hiatus.

In short it’s a boardgame of football, but with elves, dwarves, orcs and wizards. A bit like chess, a lot not like it. A fantastic game.

Your team consists of usually 11-16 players so it’s not necessary to buy and paint hundreds of miniatures. Unless you want all types of teams that is.

These three players will be beastmen in my new Chaos team. In order to make them more diversed from the generic goatman look I’ve applied greenstuff. Inspiration comes from a tzeentch warband in a White Dwarf magazine (#128 I believe), the Wheel of Time series, early GW catalogue and the Oldhammer community.

Pics are not that great, will do better when project is finished. Promise.
