Doing a 1000 pts Destruction force for an Age of Sigmar tournament this weekend.
My original plan was to do about 82 miniatures but then the new Generals Handbook came.
New plan will be an orc shaman as general, 40 grots and 3 ogors as battleline. To that i will have 3 trolls, 3 Gore gruntas and a unit of ardboyz. Plus a gobbo big boss. That makes it 61 models instead. Thats fine.
Plan is to present the units properly in individual posts but also put some of them up here already.
This is my cavalry, the general plus Gore gruntas.
Next are the Sourbreath Troggoths, not the sharpest knives in the toolshed. I call them the Stinktank. The’ve been rebased, touched up and varnished since I played with them last time.
Here is also some ogres, Mooch’s Bunch, since they are lead by the Ogre Captain Mooch. The model is Hrothyogg, the C23 ogre Captain, sculpted by Jes Goodwin. Probably my favourite ogre model. The other two are from Reaper Miniatures, part of the Bones3 kickstarter I received earlier this year.
Will do proper army pics this weekend.
First 31 down, 51 to go.
Feels really good about this.
These miniatures are sculpted by Nick Lund, some of them are pre-slotta but some of them have slotta tabs. They’re about as old as me some of them. Some of them are from regiment of renown’s Eeza Ugezod’s Mother Crushers, some are labelled Giant Black Orcs. They are a bit wonky and maybe not as giant by comparison to other greenskins nowadays, I do like all of them a lot.
Next up are more gobbos but soon I’ll move onto bigger pieces.
Some friends are arranging a small Age of Sigmar tournament as an incentive for getting more things painted up. Tournaments are also a real cost efficient way to get some table top time. During a day you can manage quite a few games, which is always a good thing. With the new generals handbook coming to AoS I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get on board.
Since I already hade a sizeable Orcs & Goblin army so i thought that shouldnt be a problem. Thing is that it all needed rebasing because of the exploding world phenomenon. Going through the pile looking for suitable miniatures to represent my general I went for an older orc shaman, one I hadn´t painted yet.
The miniature in question was the orc shaman riding a war wyvern from Marauder miniatures range. But instead he´ll be mounted on a sabretooth tiger (with an additional head added), counting as a war boar which is a legitimate option on the orc great shaman warscroll.
I also realised that there were quite a substantial amount of unpainted lead in the vault. So instead of just rebasing I entertained the idea of painting instead of rebasing and in doing so making my greenskin collection even greater. But most important greener.
So all in all there´s about 82 miniatures to do before the tournament which is only 6 weeks away. Will it suffice? Hope so, if time runs out I might just rebase some of the already painted stuff but that´s plan B.
First out are a bunch of black orcs scuplted by Nick Lund. The miniatures are from Grenadier, Chronicle N11 and the Citadel regiments of renown (Eeza Ugezod´s mother crushers RR18) series.
They will be accompanied by Jes Goodwins Despoiling hobgoblins of the Darkland (RR 15) and some newly sculpted Feral Goblins by Kevin Adams from Knightmare Miniatures. Some c36 Hobgoblins ill also be there.
All of these will form a 60 heads strong horde of Gitmob Grots for the purpose of the game.
This is how far I´ve come now:
It will be 1000 points in total, and apart from the general and the grots there will be trolls/troggoths, orcs/orruks, ogres/ogors, a boar chariot and some gore-gruntas (a sort of orc boar boyz). It will be some sort of grand alliance of Destruction, and it will be awesome.
Youngest nephew loves pirates, so I made special one for his birthday. Good fun was had and he seems to have liked it.
Summertime means usually less painting and more gaming, this year is not an exception.
I’ve reopened my 40K boxes and even played with the new rules, kind of likes them.
Plan is also to finish the shadow war Armageddon team as well as start a new warband for AoS.
Picking up 40k again meant opportunity to actually paint up some scenery that’s been unpainted for over 20 years, here’s some wip:
Today a box of goodies from reaper miniatures arrived, since I backed their bones 3 kickstarter two years ago. The to-be-painted pile is growing fast, but that’s ok though.
Players for a Chaos Pact team; Troll, Dark elf and a Moosotaur.
Players for a Chaos Pact team; Troll, Dark elf and a Moosotaur.
The troll is from Greebo, the dark elf (not sure) and the Moosotaur is from Eurobowl 2016. The moose is sculpted by the Kalle (Gimpen) who also has made the beautiful Ogre team available from Impact. He has done a lot of other stuff, super punch troll and some goblins. The dwarves I do hope get some wider spread some day, we´ll see.
The team that they are joining are wearing purple and are generally darker. Thats what I went for. Mostly glazing and washing apart from the metal parts. Quite fun.
Looking forward to painting my own moosotaurs soon. Really happy with how the horns turned out.
Next up are gobbos, completing an Orc team.
The first three from left are John pickfords sculpts, from wargames foundry/Warmonger miniatures. The last one is greenstuffed.
The NAF trophy was won in febuary, not by me but by the team that the goblins are completing the savage orc themed team I painted earlier.
Did a bit more since the photos and now I’ve started the painting process.
This will be one of four goblins on a bloodbowl orc team roster, completing a commision. This one is focusing on the stomping aspects of the game play. Really excited to see how he turns out.
Based on the Naggaroth Nightmares from 3rd edition, these models are quite iconic I’d say. They bring the total painted figure up to 26 for the year, which is quite good but also means I’d have to step it up a bit to reach the three-digit-goal.
The team is devotees of the lesser Chaos God Malal, thats why they have b/w skulls. The mascot is a Citadel Temple Dog, the assassins is an older whfb dark elf assassin and a 2nd ed Bloodbowl Elf which has been given a night goblin scimitar from the older plastic regiment box. The coach is a dark elf corsair from way back, he’s been weapon snipped and been given a greenstuffed book. One of the linemen is a 2nd ed runner.
Here are some of the positionals:

The team has already been fielded on the pitch, a friend borrowed them last Saturday when we tried his roster for the upcoming NAFC in Nottingham. Good fun was had.
Next paint project wont be batchpainting a twentyfold squad, thats for sure.
